Crazy meds, again

Filed under: Crazy Meds, Health, Inner Life, Misc., Whine Cellar — Terry @ 3:03 pm

I went to the shrink again this morning, trying to get a handle on the anxiety and panic attacks. So now I’m off the Klonopin and Inderal, and onto Buspar, and have a referral slip in my purse for a gynecologist who specializes in psych hormonal issues. I can’t tell if I’m coming or going on these meds, but at least I’m calm. That’s an improvement I’m willing to settle for at the moment. I’m still a little jittery and drugged-feeling, but any way I look at it, it’s a major improvement over the hell of this last week.

I’m wondering if, like Tish, I should split up my journalling and keep the personal medical issues separate from my political and social commentary. What do you think? Or maybe once things are under control again, I won’t feel the need to write about the medical stuff. A little self-revelation goes a long way; probably farther than anyone is interested in reading.

I see no reason why you should segregate this part of your life.

Don’t make yourself an invisible person.

    Crazy Meds

When they work, meds are great. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right meds, though….

I totally understand your feelings about this, Terry. I think it comes down to what (and, to some degree who) you want your blog to be. Does the blog represent all of you, or are you looking to compete more with the so-proclaimed “objective” bloggers (mostly 30ish males) who blog mostly on politics and nothing on their personal lives (unless they’re like Tony Pierce and catting around a certain party circuit).

In general, I think there is a prejudice against women bloggers because we decide to blog about the whole enchilada…but then get caught up in the judgements of which enchilada is tasty and which isn’t. Alot of people like when the personal side of women’s blogs consists of motherhood and pets, but when it goes somewhere else, they get all antsy. It’s because those other enchiladas–which might include frank discussions about psycotropic meds and the struggles with them, or about the sex lives of middle-aged women–shatter the images that many males want to keep of women. As long as we women blog about politics, kids and pets, and are not out of who the males believe women should be, then we are acceptable. (note here that male bloggers who are themselves people with lives do not have trouble with women bloggers who can mix it all up–but given the demographics of male bloggers, those particular mensches are few and far between)

So, if your blog is effective in its current state, then leave it the way it is. If you think you might be more effective by putting the personal in another place, give it a try…just don’t forget to post a link to it on your sidebar! :-)

Thanks, Sherry. Tish, I think you hit on my key question - is what I’m doing now effective as it is? Am I making people uncomfortable talking about it?

I agree with Tish’s (excellent) input.

And if people are uncomfortable, they’re uncomfortable. No reason to self-edit yourself.
