It’s not about babies

by Terry 08 May 2006

The war on women’s bodies has just begun and it doesn’t stop with abortion. When they tell you it’s about “saving babies,” don’t believe them. Outlawing contraception is high on the agenda. I’ve written about it here and here, but the issue is back in the news again. The wingnuts are feeling bolder than ever.

Read Jeff at Have Coffee Will Write for a fightening quote.

Read Sherry Chandler for a great historical perspective.

Read Feministe for in-depth coverage.

The Pill and other hormonal contraceptives DO lead to the death of a new life. That’s the contraception pro-lfiers object to. Banning barrier methods is NOT on the agenda.

It really is about fetal rights. The fact you don’t believe it says more about you than pro-lifers.  (Quote)

Did you read the quote, Suzanne?

“We see a direct connection between the practice of contraception and the practice of abortion,” says Judie Brown, president of the American Life League, an organization that has battled abortion for 27 years but that, like others, now has a larger mission.

“The mind-set that invites a couple to use contraception is an anti-child mind-set,” she told me. “So when a baby is conceived accidentally, the couple already have this negative attitude toward the child. Therefore seeking an abortion is a natural outcome. We oppose all forms of contraception.  (Quote)

What exactly do you mean by this? The pill prevents ovulation by suppressing estrogen and progestrone in the body that would stimulate the ovary to release an egg, essentially making a woman temporarily infertile. There is no “death” involved in this process.  (Quote)

The fact that Plan B was stopped is also proof that it’s about controlling women.

Plan B prevents pregnancies from occuring. Suzanne.  (Quote)
