A challenge – take 2
So that no one else feels the need to prop me up, I’m going to step out on a limb and make my own list.
Things I like about myself:
- I teach myself new things. I dive into things I don’t know and figure them out by myself, and if I have trouble with it, I don’t hesitate to ask for help.
- I’m a good mother. I’ve raised strong, loving children who can make it just fine without me.
- I’m not afraid to fail. I’ve done it often enough to know it’s not fatal and is often a learning experience.
- I’m honest in my writing. There’s a lot of me in it, in my blogging, in my fiction and in my poetry, and I don’t try to shield myself anymore. I lay my heart out there and let others see in it what they will.
- In web work, if you can describe what you want, I can make it happen. And I can make it happen fast. Better yet, draw me a picture and I can turn it into a design that’s attractive, functional, and fast loading, with features that didn’t occur to you until you saw them done.
Physical is much harder.
- My hands. They’re small and soft and freckled. My nails are strong and nicely shaped.
- My hair. Even though it’s going white, it’s soft and feels good against my skin.
- My eyebrow ring. It makes me smile every time I touch it.
- The birthmark on my back. It’s paisley shaped and a beautiful chocolate brown. It’s unique to me.
- My shoulders. They’re freckled and just the right size for me.
Sheesh, that was tough. But I’m going to make it a point to read this list from time to time, when I get down on myself. Thanks for encouraging me to do this.

Wonderful list, Terry! I think you’re right about rereading the list from time to time. In fact, I may expand my own list for myself. I named stuff quickly, but I should take the time to write more and keep it. We all get down, so it’s always a good idea to have something like this handy to remind ourselves why we should love who we are. :)
Thanks for posting this exercise!!

I think we should all print out our lists and read them regularly!
