But it was enough to get HIM fired
From the Spokesman-Review:
Spokane County Civil Service Commissioner John Shagen will lose his spot on the panel as a result of this month’s controversial decision regarding a sheriff’s detective who had been fired for exposing himself at an Airway Heights coffee stand.
A second civil service commissioner, Curt Berklund, is being asked to voluntarily step down by the Spokane County Board of Commissioners. But Berklund, a former director of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, said this afternoon he won’t leave the volunteer position.
“To resign would be to admit wrongdoing,” he said. “Everything was done within the legal limits of the law.”
In a special meeting today, commissioners said they believe the public has lost confidence in the two civil service commissioners who changed Detective Joseph Mastel’s termination to a suspension and retirement for the June 16 incident.
Finally. A little bit of accountability.

Here we go!! Another good ole’ boy fiasco.
If Mr Berklund has any concern for this city, he should resign. Didn’t we learn anything from the Jim West situation?
If Mr Berklund has a conscience, he should resign.
If Mr Berklund has any sense of decency, he should resign.
If Mr Berklund doesn’t want to appear to be an ass, he should resign.
Well Mr Berklund??? Mary Engel(Quote)
