He needs a teeny tiny leash ….

by Terry 11 January 2009

Gingrich the salamander

Meet Gingrich (he was named while Tony thought he was a newt), the newest member of the family.  His companion, Pelosi, is not as hand-tame, and so had to stay in the tank.

They’re tiger salamanders that Tony found on campus and adopted.  They eat crickets and meal worms, and ham when Tony sneaks it to them.  Being amphibians, they like and need water, but they’re burrowing creatures by nature.  For the first few months of their pet-hood they lived in a beer cooler in Tony’s closet.  Now they live in a 5 gallon aquarium full of dirt and leaves, with a cereal bowl swimming pool.   And yes, they’re going back to school with him tomorrow, no matter how much the cats would like them to stay and play.

Pretty sure they *are* newts (newt sometimes=salamander). He’s gotten fat!

Yup, They’re eating every day now instead of a couple of times a week, and they stuff themselves. You should see Pelosi!

Thanks for the spelling correction. I’ve got the link working now, if you want to go try it out.  (Quote)

This is just a test—you can delete it if you want or keep it and make a lot of money from it when I’m world-famous  (Quote)

There is an Austin Lounge Lizards song “Gingrich the Newt” in which they, in the voice of a newt, lament the damage that the former Speaker has done to their reputation….  (Quote)

A and Poet – you did gravatars! Thank you!

I can only imagine what the voice of a newt sounds like. :)  (Quote)

That’s priceless, A! I was imagining more like the Geico gecko, but baritone would fit much better. They have such serious little faces.  (Quote)
