A wonder drug

Because of some on-going issues, I checked in with my psychiatrist yesterday morning.  As per our regular routine, she asked to see my hands, to help her gauge my anxiety level.  When she saw that they were torn up, she said she had something new for me to try.

Vistaril, also known as Atarax, is amazing.  It kicks in in about 20 minutes, taking away all the itch and completely wiping out the anxiety that causes it.  This stuff is a freaking miracle drug for me.  The only drawback that I’ve found so far is that it’s sedating – I managed to stay awake to watch the basketball game, but was asleep within minutes of it ending, and I’m still feeling somewhat sleepy today.   That side effect is supposed to be short lived and go away after taking it for awhile.  But who would have thought there was an anti-anxiety med out there that specifically targets itch?

I’m lucky this stuff is available by prescription, because having tried it once, I’d hunt it down on the black market if I had to.  It works that well.

I wish I’d known about this years ago.  I’d have a lot fewer scars.
